Ten days that follow Egypt’s history from the pyramids to the Mediterranean. You start in Cairo with the Giza Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, then sail the Nile from Aswan, stopping at Kom Ombo and Edfu on the way to Luxor, where an extra day gives you time for its temples and tombs. From Luxor you head to Alexandria for its Greek and Roman past, then return to Cairo for a final day before flying home. Airport transfers, the Nile cruise and guiding are included, from $1,790.
Your Egypt Day Tours representative meets you at Cairo airport with a name sign and helps you through immigration and customs, then takes you by private air-conditioned car to your hotel. After breakfast your guide collects you from your hotel for the Giza Pyramids of Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren) and Menkaure (Mykerinus), the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. In the afternoon you visit the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, whose collection spans 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian art. After breakfast you are taken to Cairo airport for the flight to Aswan, where your guide meets you. You visit the High Dam, Philae Temple, dedicated to Isis and rebuilt on Agilkia Island after the dam was built, and the Unfinished Obelisk, which shows how the ancient Egyptians cut their obelisks. You board your Nile cruise in time for lunch. Overnight on board. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Early in the morning you can take an optional trip by road to Abu Simbel, where Ramesses II carved two temples into a sandstone cliff, the Great Temple and the smaller temple of Queen Nefertari, both moved to higher ground in the 1960s to save them from Lake Nasser. The cruise then sails to Kom Ombo for the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris, and on to Edfu for the Temple of Horus, often with entertainment on board in the evening. Overnight on board. After breakfast your guide takes you to the West Bank of Luxor for the Valley of the Kings, entering three royal tombs, then the Temple of Hatshepsut and a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, before returning to the cruise. Overnight on board. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Start with an optional hot air balloon flight over the West Bank. After breakfast you disembark and see more of Luxor, including Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple on the East Bank, before your flight back to Cairo and the transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Cairo. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast you drive about three hours to Alexandria. You visit Pompey’s Pillar and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, then the Bibliotheca Alexandrina with its open court and museums, and the Citadel of Qaitbay, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse. A drive along the corniche takes you past the Eastern Harbour and Stanley Bridge to the royal gardens of Montazah and the palaces of King Farouk, Egypt’s last king, with stops at the Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, the Unknown Soldier Memorial and the statue of Alexander the Great. Overnight in Alexandria. Meals: breakfast and lunch.
After breakfast you are driven back to Cairo and your hotel. Overnight in Cairo. Meals: breakfast.
After breakfast your guide takes you to Saqqara, the burial ground of Memphis for some 3,000 years, to see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, built around 2650 BC and the earliest large stone building in Egypt. In the afternoon you visit Coptic Cairo, with the Church of Abu Serga, the Church of St Barbara, the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue, and finish in Khan el Khalili and the El Hussein area. Overnight in Cairo. Meals: breakfast and lunch.
After breakfast your representative meets you in the hotel lobby and takes you to Cairo airport, helping you through immigration and customs for your flight home. Meals: breakfast.
