A private Egypt birding and antiquities tour from Cairo to Aswan, targeting the flyway’s best birds at Fayoum, the Nile, and Lake Nasser while exploring the Pyramids, Luxor, and the great temples, led by an expert local bird guide and timed to migration.
This is the trip that birders dream about and most never realize is possible: a journey that fills your list with flyway migrants and African specialties while you stand inside the tombs and temples of ancient Egypt. We combine the two passions into one seamless private tour, led by an expert local bird guide who knows both the birds and the history, so you never have to choose between them.
The format is proven. The world’s top birding companies run this exact combination once or twice a year at a premium. We offer it privately and flexibly, on the dates that suit you and tuned to the migration, with the same expert guiding and far more freedom. Your trip, your pace, your targets.
A typical journey begins in Cairo, with the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, then heads to the Fayoum wetlands for some of the country’s richest birding: flamingos, pelicans, and wildfowl on Lake Qarun, waders and Senegal Thick-knee at Wadi El Rayan, and desert species at the oasis edges. From there you travel the Nile to Luxor for the Valley of the Kings and Karnak, birding the fields and riverbanks along the way, then on to Aswan and Lake Nasser, where African specialties and waterbirds await alongside the temples of Philae and, optionally, Abu Simbel.
Throughout, the birding and the antiquities are interwoven rather than separated. You might tick a Nile Valley Sunbird in a temple garden, a Pied Kingfisher from a felucca, or a stream of migrating raptors above a tomb. Your guide carries the scope, knows the calls, and gets you onto the birds, while also bringing the ancient sites to life.
We time the trip to your goals. Come in spring or autumn for the migration spectacle, or in winter for flamingos and ducks. We will be honest about what is realistic to see in your window, because we would rather set true expectations than oversell.
This is the heart of birding in Egypt. See the calendar on our best time for birdwatching page, the targets on our birds of Egypt guide, and the full site list on best birdwatching sites in Egypt. It anchors our birdwatching in Egypt collection.
