TL;DR: The best times for birdwatching in Egypt are the spring migration (March to May) and autumn migration (September to November) for storks and raptors, and winter (December to February) for flamingos and wildfowl. Birding in Egypt is seasonal, and timing your trip well makes a real difference to what you see. We will be honest about each season so you can plan around your targets rather than be disappointed.

Spring migration runs roughly from March to May, when soaring birds, White Storks and raptors, and waves of waders and passerines head north from Africa to Europe and Asia. It is a prime time for the migration spectacle at the Gulf of Suez.

Spring also brings pleasant temperatures before the summer heat, making it a comfortable and exciting time to bird.

Autumn migration runs roughly from September to November, as the same soaring birds and migrants stream south toward their African wintering grounds. It is another excellent window for raptor and stork passage.

Autumn can bring large numbers and a long season, and it pairs well with still-warm Red Sea waters for a combined trip.

Yes, winter (December to February) is superb for waterbirds, when the wetlands fill with greater flamingos, pelicans, and large numbers of ducks and waders. Fayoum’s Lake Qarun is a winter highlight, and the weather is comfortably mild.

For many visitors, winter is the most enjoyable season: big concentrations of birds, easy viewing, and pleasant temperatures for combining birding with sightseeing.

Summer (June to August) is hot and the quietest birding season, though resident and breeding species remain, and the Red Sea islands host breeding Sooty Falcons. Early mornings are best to beat the heat.

Unless you have a specific summer target, the other seasons are more rewarding and far more comfortable.
