Itinerary

On August 2, 2027, the sky above Luxor will go dark in the middle of the day. For 6 minutes and 23 seconds, the moon will completely cover the sun above the very temples where ancient Egyptians worshipped Ra. It is the longest total solar eclipse anywhere on land until the year 2114, and you can be standing right beneath it.

This 5-day private tour is built around that one extraordinary moment, and it makes sure the rest of your trip lives up to it.

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo. Your licensed Egyptologist guide meets you at the airport. Private transfer to your hotel, evening at leisure.

Day 2: Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Stand before the Great Pyramid of Khufu, come face to face with the Sphinx, and walk among the golden treasures of Tutankhamun at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Your guide is not reciting a script. They studied Egyptology, they know what the hieroglyphs actually say, and they will happily go down whatever rabbit hole catches your curiosity.

Day 3: Fly to Luxor and Karnak Temple. Fly south to Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes, sitting almost directly on the eclipse centerline. Explore Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built, dedicated to the sun god Amun-Ra. There is something special about hearing the story of Ra’s nightly battle with the serpent Apep one day before you watch the sun itself disappear.

Day 4: ECLIPSE DAY, August 2, 2027. Eclipse day is yours. We position you at a reserved private viewing site with shade, cold water, certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses, and your guide beside you. Totality begins just after 1 PM with the sun nearly overhead, and the Luxor region has roughly an 80 percent chance of clear August skies. While big group tours herd dozens of people onto crowded hotel lawns, you will experience those six minutes exactly how you want to: in quiet awe, behind your camera, or celebrating out loud.

Day 5: Valley of the Kings and departure. Cross to the West Bank to walk through the Valley of the Kings and visit the temple of Hatshepsut before your departure.

Every detail is private. Your own guide, your own air-conditioned vehicle, your own pace. August in Egypt is hot, so we plan temple visits for the cooler morning hours and keep the AC running everywhere in between. Spots for eclipse week are strictly limited by hotel availability in Luxor. If you are reading this, there is still a way in. Do not wait.

FAQs

When exactly does the eclipse happen in Luxor?

The total solar eclipse takes place on Monday, August 2, 2027. In Luxor, totality begins shortly after 1:00 PM local time and lasts about 6 minutes and 23 seconds, with the sun almost directly overhead. The partial phases begin roughly an hour and a quarter before totality.

Is it safe to look at the eclipse?

Yes, with the right protection. During the partial phases you must wear ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses, which we provide for every guest. During the few minutes of totality itself, it is safe and unforgettable to look with the naked eye. Your guide will tell you exactly when.

What is the weather like in Luxor in August?

Hot and almost always clear. Historical data gives the Luxor region around an 80 percent chance of cloud-free skies on eclipse day, which is exactly why eclipse chasers worldwide picked Egypt. We schedule temple visits for cooler morning hours and your private vehicle is fully air-conditioned.

Are not all the hotels in Luxor sold out?

Most are, and they have been for a while. As a local Egyptian operator we hold limited confirmed accommodation for eclipse week, which is why availability on this tour is strictly capped. Once our rooms are gone, they are gone, so we recommend booking as early as you can.

Can I customize this itinerary?

Absolutely. Every Egypt Day Tours trip is private and built around you. Want to add Abu Simbel, a Nile cruise, extra days in Cairo, or a hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings? Just tell us and we will design your perfect eclipse trip free of charge.
