Overview

Egypt is one of the world’s oldest civilizations, and the reality of traveling here as an LGBTQ person is more nuanced than headlines suggest. This tour is designed by people who actually work in Egypt and know what safety, comfort, and authenticity look like in this context.

We are based in Egypt. Our guides are Egyptian, which matters because we understand local culture and we have real relationships with hotels, restaurants, and sites. We have booked safe, welcoming accommodations in every city. In Cairo, we use hotels in neighborhoods like Zamalek and Dokki where you will see diverse people and international sensibilities. In Luxor and Aswan, we work with specific hotels where staff understand your needs and have experience hosting LGBTQ guests.

The cultural piece is real. Egypt is Muslim-majority and conservative in many ways. But it is also a place where hundreds of thousands of people have lived full lives without hiding. We do not ask you to pretend. We do ask for discretion in public spaces, which is genuine practical advice, not bigotry. You can hold hands with your travel companion in most restaurants in Cairo. You will draw fewer eyes in tourist areas like Luxor temples than you would on a random street. We brief you on context so your decisions are informed.

The actual itinerary is eight days covering Cairo, a Nile cruise, and Aswan. You see the temples and pyramids. You float on a felucca at sunset. You eat at restaurants where your guide is known and where you are welcome. In Cairo, you can spend an evening in the neighborhoods where younger Egyptians actually gather, which is different from the sanitized tourist version of the city.

You will meet Egyptians who are queer and open about it. You will see that Egypt is more complex than outsiders assume. You will understand that being queer and Egyptian is not a contradiction, it is a reality that many people navigate.

This tour is for people who want the real Egypt, not the resort version, and who want to travel safely and authentically as themselves.
