After arriving in Cairo you visit the Giza Pyramids, then join a cruise that starts in Luxor with the East and West Banks and sails via Edfu and Kom Ombo to Aswan. After breakfast your guide takes you to the Giza Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx and its Valley Temple, then on to the Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramids, home to the complete Tutankhamun collection, much of it on display for the first time, in galleries that take you through Egyptian history in order. After an early check-out you fly to Luxor for a guided tour of the East Bank. At Karnak, an open-air complex of temples and pylons built from the Middle Kingdom to Ptolemaic times, the Hypostyle Hall holds 134 giant columns up to 21 metres tall, and almost every pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty added a building. Start the day with an optional sunrise hot air balloon flight over the West Bank. After breakfast your guide takes you to the Valley of the Kings, entering three royal tombs, then the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the few women to rule as pharaoh, and the Colossi of Memnon. After breakfast you visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the best-preserved temple in Egypt, with its reliefs of the battle between Horus and Seth and its Nilometer. Over lunch the boat sails to Kom Ombo for the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris, from the Greco-Roman period, and continues to Aswan. Overnight on board. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
After breakfast a private air-conditioned car takes you to Abu Simbel, where Ramesses II carved the Great Temple into a sandstone cliff, with the smaller temple of Queen Nefertari, dedicated to Hathor, beside it. Both were moved to higher ground in the 1960s to save them from Lake Nasser. You return to Aswan for dinner on board. Overnight on board. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
After breakfast you tour Aswan: the High Dam, Philae Temple, dedicated to Isis and rebuilt on Agilkia Island after the dam was built, and the Unfinished Obelisk. Our representative then takes you to Aswan airport for your flight to Cairo and on to your hotel. Overnight in Cairo. Meals: breakfast and lunch.
After breakfast you drive to Alexandria for the Roman Amphitheatre, the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Citadel of Qaitbay from outside, finishing in the gardens of Montazah. Overnight in Alexandria. Meals: breakfast and lunch.
After breakfast you drive back to Cairo for Saqqara and the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s oldest major stone structure, then Memphis, the first capital of ancient Egypt, and Old Cairo, with the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. Overnight in Cairo. Meals: breakfast and lunch.
After breakfast your representative takes you to Cairo airport and helps you through immigration and customs for your flight home. Meals: breakfast.
